Thinking process poker

When playing poker it's important to understand the levels of thinking, which is to get beyond the cards and think about your opponents and the situation. Ivey League the poker training different categories type of thought process that might not be necessarily the most as possible without thinking. Thinking Tournament Poker, Volume Two takes you through sixty-nine hands the author played on Day Two of the most prestigious poker tournament in the world. As in the first volume, these hands are accompanied by strategic commentary from a group of expert poker players, coaches, and authors.

How to Spot a Level 3 Thinker

Figure 1 There are several ways to play this hand based on situational factors. What do they think I think they think I have? So what does he put us on? What does multiple level thinking mean to you? Everyone else folds and you are in the big blind with:

Thinking Tournament Poker, Volume Two

Thinking Through a Poker Hand By Donovan Panone In order to progress in the game of poker you have to think beyond the cards that you play. There are many situational factors that you have to take into affect when determining the expected value of your decisions. These factors may be different depending on whether you are playing a tournament or a cash game. To focus this lesson, we will concentrate on tournament play. Situational Factors There are many different factors to take into effect when making decisions about a poker hand.

Volume 1 are the primary situational factors to consider during tournament play. The stage of the tournament early, bubble, final table, etc. Number of players at the table. Playing styles and personalities of the players on the table. Your image at the table. Your stack size in relation to the others at the table. Your position relative to the other players. Action that has occurred before you. Number and type of players left to act after you. Your position after the flop. Tells you may have picked up.

Levels of Thinking In order to get beyond the cards, there are different levels in which you should be thinking about the players and the situation. The Decision Making Process As mentioned, the actual cards you hold should only be one small factor to consider.

And while I think most people fundamentally agree with this concept, many do not implement it correctly in the process they take when deciding their actions at the table. Additionally, online poker can create bad habits that are counterintuitive to successful poker play. Online, more so than in live poker, the cards you hold can have a higher weight in your decision making process than they should, simply because you see your cards first.

RikaKazak Posted over 4 years ago That's a really good list! In mtts I like to add: I would also modify it by removing the are they capable of bluffing. In live poker there are a lot of spots where someone just will not bluff even if they should, and calling down in those spots is obviously really bad.

That's why I put that question in there, to keep myself honest. Here's an updated version. Take a deep breath 2. What odds are you getting? What is your opponents range? Are they capable of bluffing? Am I attached to the hand emotionally? What's my plan for the rest of the hand? What is the pot size?

What are your opponents range? What are you trying to accomplish by betting? Are you bluffing or value betting? Are you trying to force a situation that shouldn't be forced? Hope this helps, thanks! I just want to be clear: I think this is the best thing on the list. If you read a book like 'The Intelligent Poker Player' by Philip Newall you'll get a really good idea of the split your ranges into these different categories type of thought process that might not be necessarily the most important thing to think about in a stack really bad players at live full ring NLHE but will absolutely be necessary in a wow my opponents are starting to get pretty good type of game.

GingerNinja Posted over 4 years ago Nice Post. And I agree I too get in a brain fog in unusual or pressure filled situations. I only play live MTT so as the tournament progresses I find myself acting fast without as much thought as a way of coping with pressure. Its like my mind just shuts down and I want to act as quickly as possible without thinking.

I really like your checklist. And since I think it is an exercise that could really help me out I went ahead and put something together based on what I think would really help my weaknesses. Since I am fairly new to playing seriously and only in live MTT tournaments my list is based around that: Some of this my seem very newbie like, but that is where I am at.

Big blind online poker tables

Many have done so in order to get the current "M," which is a term invented by Dan Harrington. With Chips2BB , players can view the values of their stack and their opponents' stacks exclusively in big blinds, psychologically removing the element of real money from games and prompting a person to think more in terms of big blinds. This concept is not new, but the implementation of this type of software on Poker's virtual tables is.

Currently in beta, Chips2BB is accepting testers in hopes that it will soon receive enough customer demand to be tried out on other sites as well. At the time this article was written, this software will only work at cash games tables on the Poker Network, which includes sites like Pacific Poker and Lucky Ace Poker.

Support for tournaments and other games will be added if there is customer interest in this MTT tool. The advantages of using the Chips2BB converter are many. For one, you can easily play multiple stakes simultaneously without having to read off different stack sizes and then manually calculate them in big blinds according to the stakes. The same is true for the stacks of your opponents. Customizable font settings for small table sizes can be used in order to ensure you do not misread the relevant big blind stack sizes and bet amounts.

That's because the stack sizes you will be using to make your calculation will be shown in big blinds automatically. Because less time is spent on making these calculations, a player can immediately improve his long-term expectation and spend more time making actual poker-related decisions instead of computing numbers.

Another great benefit of a program like Chips2BB is that it can emotionally disconnect players from the amount of money or number of chips at risk in a particular pot. All a player is aware of is the number of big blinds, which can result in a much less emotional, less tilt-prone method of competing online. There are several issues with the beta version that still need to be worked out according to the program's developer.
